JEY-CUAS: Advancing Technology to Counter Drones

On September 26th, a demonstration organised by MBDA under the aegis of the JEY CUAS consortium led by Leonardo took place at the Ecole de l'Air in Salon de Provence in front of many attendees, including the European Commission, several European Ministries of Defence, and partner companies from the European project.

After an opening speech by General Real, the demonstration showcased the promising technologies of sensors, effectors and C2 algorithms developed by the consortium to counteract Unmanned Air Systems. Corners were also organised for attendees to meet some companies involved in this European project.

We thank all representatives from the European Commission, Ministries of Defence and our project partners for coming over, amongst them Project coordinator Leonardo (Italy), Intecs solutions (Italy), Indra (Spain), MiCROdB (France), BPTI (Lithuania), Cilas (France), CS GROUP (France), Roboost (France), CERBAIR (France), Exavision (France), ONERA - The French Aerospace Lab (France) and Hellenic Aerospace Industry S.A. (Greece).

The JEY-CUAS project has the primary objective to define the specifications and the preliminary design of a comprehensive C-UAS capability (detection, tracking, classification, identification, risk assessment and neutralisation) focusing on micro and mini drones increasingly used for defence purposes and addressing either single or multiple UAS units, that may be uncoordinated, operating as a team or as a single system (swarm).
The consortium, which is led and coordinated by Leonardo, consists of 40 partners from 14 Countries (Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Greece, Cyprus, Lithuania, Estonia, Romania, Czechia). It includes a trans-disciplinary group of experts that cover the range of activities from applied research to high technology product development/supply, covering the whole value chain.

JEY-CUAS (Joint European sYstem for Countering Unmanned Air Systems) is funded by the European Unions EDIDP 2020 under Grant Agreement EDIDP-CUAS-2020-78-JEY-CUAS.
